Mangaluru Apr 14: Ladyhill circle was renamed to Narayana Guru circle and foundation stone laid for the same on Thursday, April 14, after the state government approved the proposal by the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC).
District in charge minister Sunil Kumar unveiled the plaque.
Speaking on the occasion, Sunil Kumar said, "We all have grown with the ideologies of Bhramashree Narayana Guru, it is a proud moment for all of us to rename Ladyhill Circle as Bhramashree Narayan Guru circle.
MLA Vedavyas Kamath said, "It was a long pending demand to rename Ladyhill Circle to Bhramashree Narayana Guru Circle. At the same time there is opposition for the same. I had assured to rename this circle when I became the MLA. Last year, during the tenure of Divakar Pandeshwar as mayor, a proposal was presented in the meeting and approval was given. Later the same was sent to the state government for approval which has received a nod. The circle will be beautified with a statue of Bhramashree Narayana Guru.
MP and state BJP president Nalin Kumar kateel, MLA Dr Bharath Y Shetty, mayor Premanand Shetty and MUDA president Ravishankar Mijar, corporator Sandhya Acharya, former mayor Diwakar Pandeshwar and others were present.
