Bantwal, Apr 11: A special demonstration of arecanut dehusking was held at Maji government school at Veerakamba village of the taluk.
Maji school has an arecanut farm, which has complimented the revenue of the school. It also has instilled interest towards arecanut farming in addition to regular school studies to the students.
The school organized training for the students on aspects of gathering of arecanut that fall from the tree, drying them and removing its skin.
The special demonstration on how to dehusk arecanut was presented by member of SDMC of the school and progressive farmer Gopalkrishna Bhat Dewana. All students took active part in the event.
Sanjeeva Moolya, president of school development board, members of board, head teacher Narayana Poojary, teachers of the school and parents of students were present.
Sangeeta, teacher of Maji school said, “This special demonstration was held in order to instill interest in students about agriculture.”
“We are giving priority to extracurricular activities along with regular subjects of study. Introduction of agricultural activities is also complimentary to the general studies. Children are taking active part in this,” said Narayana Poojary, head teacher of the school.
Likit, student of the school, said, “The knowledge we got through the demonstration on how to collect, dry and remove the skin of arecanut has helped us a lot.”
