Mangalore, Jan 29: ‘Teachers need to upgrade knowledge in the emerging technologies’, said K V Rao who inaugurated the workshop on electronics, computer science and biotechnology for the high school teachers of Bantwal and Mangalore taluk at P A College premises, recently.

Dr K V Rao, director, Pilikula Regional Science Centre also said that the department of Science and Technology, Govt of Karnataka is taking initiative in organizing such workshops, so that government and aided school teachers and students are benefited.

K Sudhakar, block education officer, Bantwal taluk, in his speech expressed his concern about the collaborative workshops with private institutions, so that economically poor students of government schools will get a chance to interact with subject experts in the relevant fields.

Dr Abdulla Sharief, principal graced the occasion with his presence.

About 70 high school teachers of Mangalore and Bantwal taluk attended the workshop. Technical sessions in the field of biotechnology, electronics and computer science were held in the morning session and laboratory demonstrations were held in the afternoon session by the resource persons of the college.

P A College of Engineering, Mangalore and Regional Science Centre Pilikula, jointly organized the workshop.

M Iqbal- registrar, Prof Ganesh Aithal vice-principal, Dr B Abdul Rahiman, head of the biotech department, Prof S Abdul Rahiman- head of telecommunication, Dr Krishna Prasad and Prof Aziz Musthafa among others were present on the occasion. Prof Surfraz Hasim, convener, welcomed the gathering. Prof Chandra Shekhar Shetty proposed the vote of thanks. Prof Prashanth Pai M compered the programme.
