Bangalore, Jan 20, DHNS: The Justice Somashekhara Commission, probing into the attacks on churches in the State, has completed its inquiry and has decided to submit its report to the Government on January 28.
The Commission was set up in September 2008, following attacks on churches in Dakshina Kannada and other districts. The inquiry Commission’s term was extended thrice.
The Commission had submitted its interim report in February 2010.
The interim report recorded impressions it received from various witnesses who appeared before it.
‘Officials colluded’
As per the impressions recorded in the report, top police officers and the district administration, besides the panchayat heads in Dakshina Kannada, Bellary and Davangere districts had colluded with members of Bajrang Dal and Srirama Sene in attacking churches or places of worship.
On the pretext of providing protection to Christian protesters, police had exceeded their powers by resorting to lathicharge. This resulted in innocent people being hurt, the report said.
