Mangalore: RTO Warns Errant Auto Rickshaw Drivers

Mangalore, Jan 19: The regional transport office here has warned auto rickshaw drivers against collecting higher fare that what is prescribed from the passengers, and also against turning down requests to go to specific places.

The department has said that it has received a number of complaints from the people about the non-adherence of the rules framed for plying of auto rickshaws in different places like the city railway station, KSRTC bus stand, Kankanady railway station, and other places. The complaints range from rejecting the requests of passengers to go to some areas, collecting exorbitant fares, not keeping the flag meters in running condition, behaving rudely with the passengers, etc.

The office has said that it has taken up a special drive to look into all these aspects, and has warned that the driving licences and permits of the guilty drivers will be suspended.

The office has requested the people to file complaints with either the regional transport office or Pandeswhar police station in the city, giving details clearly, like name and address of the complainant, registration number of the vehicle concerned, details of the date, time, spot of their travel, nature of complaint, and other details.
