Mangaluru: St Ann’s College of Education holds annual Sports Day

Mangaluru, Mar 14: The students of St Ann’s College of Education gathered with great fervour and enthusiasm to witness the annual Sports Day was held on March 10, in the college ground Mangaluru.

Pradeep D’ Souza deputy director, department of Youth Empowerment and Sports Mangaluru, inaugurated the sports meet. Addressing the students at the inauguration programme, the chief guest in his message spoke about the importance of physical and mental fitness through sports and as teachers to a train the future generation to face the challenges of life with a spirit of sportsmanship.

The students rhythmically marched with pride and elegance in their uniforms to mark the opening ceremony led by Jevita Marita Fernandes, the sports secretary. The students pledged the oath led by the leaders of the four groups which were named after four top more sports personality namely Saina Nehwal, P V Sindhu, Hima Das, Mithali Raj. The students danced to the rhythm of the beats by performing Zumba, a form of stunning and captivating body swings. Sr Marie Lucy A C, the joint secretary and the superior of St Ann’s Convent, was the president of the inaugural function of the sports meet. The heads and staff members of institutions on the campus, and students of St Ann’s DEd College were present. Track and Field events were conducted for the students’ wherein all of them participated zealously. The overall championship was bagged by the group members of Saina Nehwal. The individual championship was won by Safri Nishath and Seema Nishitha Monteiro .

Dr Sr Dorothy D’Souza A C, principal welcomed the gathering; Ophilia Venissa D’Souza compared the occasion and Jevita Marita Fernandes rendered the vote of thanks. Ramya, the physical director coordinated the Sports Day successfully.
