Mangalore: Funds Shortage Affecting Ambitious Bus Stand Project at Pumpwell?

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Jan 15: Sources in the city corporation agree that there is dearth of funds for executing the ambitious bus stand project near Pumpwell in the city. It is learnt that discussions held by the district administration officials led by district deputy commissioner, Subodh Yadav, on Thursday January 13, centred around this topic.

Karnataka Urban Development and Coastal Environment Management Project (KUDCEMP) superintending engineer, Maninarayan, also clarified during discussions that further works will be hard to conduct unless funds required for land acquisition are transferred to the concerned department. He is presently in-charge executive engineer at the city corporation.

City corporation commissioner, K N Vijayaprakash, also agreed that there is shortage of funds, saying that in addition to seven acres of land already acquired for the bus stand, 11.18 acres of land are needed to be acquired. He expressed helpless about being unable to pool funds from any other source for the project.

The suggestion of the deputy commissioner to set up private bus stand initially at the project site did not get the support of the advisor to the engineering department, Dharmaraj. He said that it would be improper to modify the project from the present public-private partnership basis, as shopping complexes set up at the bus stand will benefit the corporation. As Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation will be building a bus stand for its buses at Pumpwell, it was decided to request KSRTC to fund the amount required for land acquisition for its bus stand.

Assistant executive engineer, Gopal Gowda, pointed out that as per tender, the work of building vented dam across River Netravati at Tumbe for drinking water needs, should have been completed by January, but even half of the dam has not yet been completed. The commissioner wanted to know why there is delay, even after a sum of seven crore rupees was deposited by the corporation towards the project cost of Rs 41 crore. The deputy commissioner decided to visit the site for inspection, and to find out reasons for the delay.

Now the dust has settled. Rub your eyes and see the clear facts and deeds of our political administration. For a Port Town like Mangalore, it is the builders lobby that is creating problems. The existing Bus Stand at State Bank will suffice for the next 20 years. HOW???? Simple. A few lakhs of rupees is all that is required to create a parking bay behind State Bank for busses and at departure time the busses should be allowed to make entry in the existing Bus Stand to pick up passengers and move out in 5 minutes. No congestion, no jams, orderly set up and above all convenience to people. Imagine a situation where people have to alihgt at the proposed Pumpwell bus stand and then again board an auto to reach State Bank. Utter Chaos.

Establishing a state-of-the-art Busstand at Pumpwell is most ambitious and important decision that MCC even made.It is sad to note that there is shortage of funds. What happpened to CM's special package of 100 crores that Mr.Yeddy promised in the budget? The bidding on the sale of commercial complex in the proposed Busstand alone will fetch several crores. It is a shame that we do not have money to fund for a such an important project which has a capacity to change the landscape of Mangalore for better.Mr.Mr.Subodh is a dynamic DC presntly. Why can't we pool money from 5 sources ? 1.CM's special package
    2.MCC
3.KSRTC since it too is a beneficiary
    4.KUDCEMP
5.From public private partnership & auctioning commercial outlets.
it appaers none of these different bodies see eye to eye with each other. What about Highway authories and state highway boards which too have stake in this project? If the DC can coordinate all these departments we can have excellent facilities at Pumpwell.Even BJP can claim the credit for the magnificiant piece of development work which will become a dotted land mark in the city & reward for the faith that people deposed on BJP in the twin districts in elections.Mr.Palemar are u listeting?

For the last 2 years we have been reading everymonth NEW NEW PROJECTS with crores of allocations from politicians mouth. Now where are those promises? Why can't D.C. ask those ministers on what ground they have fooled people ? Is it only for election purposes ? Is there any accountability? These are the same ministers we can see in most of the press photos. Anyhow Mangalore is well known for these kind of projects ex. Bajpe airport, Highway from Surathkal to B.C. Road, and lately New Ring Road around Mangalore. Anyhow, now there is not a single election coming soon hence we can read most of this kind of press readings. WHY CAN'T THE RIGHT MINISTER GIVE THE RIGHT REPLY URGENTLY, WE are all waiting for it.
