Udupi, Jan 15: MP, D V Sadanand Gowda, felt that India remained insulated from global recession because of the existence of cooperative sector, the tendency of the people to save, and efficient handling of the economic system. He was speaking after inaugurating the strong room of the third branch of Gurumachideva Multipurpose Cooperative Society at Sri Annappa Tower in Malpe Vadbahandeshwar near here on Friday January 14.
“Cooperative sector has played a big role in the economic empowerment of India. At the same time, family squabbles, politics, and competition, which have entered this sector at individual level, have the potential of ringing death knell for the sector. Administrative system based on statistics alone cannot be the only yardstick of achievement. Value-based society is equally important,” he noted. At the same time, he hailed Gurumachideva community for discharging its social commitments appreciably.
The new branch of the society was inaugurated by South Canara District Central Cooperative Bank Ltd chairman, M N Rajendra Kumar. Entrepreneur from Malpe, Pramod Madhwaraj, inaugurated the Western Union Money Transfer system of the branch.
District cooperative union president, Kishen Hegde Kolkebail, BJP district president, Udayakumar Shetty, district Wakf Board chairman, T S Budan Basha, deputy director of cooperative audit, Ravindra Patil, and several other dignitaries were present.
