Udupi: Pressure Increasing on Gopal Poojary to Withdraw Resignation

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Jan 12: Congress activists led by former minister and Congress leader, K Jayaprakash Hegde, have urged Gopal Poojary, who had recently become the president of Udupi District Congress Committee, to withdraw his resignation from the post. Poojary, who had announced during the zilla and taluk panchayat elections, that he would resign from his post if the BJP reigns supreme in the elections, had tendered his resignation after his party’s debacle.

In a press release, the leaders said that Gopal Poojary did not have enough time at his disposal as he had been elevated to the position of the district president only about three months back. They have noted that because of paucity of time, Poojary had also not been able to take over charge officially in a function, form committees, or strengthen the organizational set up of the party.

“Even though the Congress failed to grab power in the taluk and zilla panchayats, it has been able to increase its tally of votes. The president is not solely responsible for the defeat of party candidates. As such, all the party leaders should convince Poojary to withdraw the resignation,” they have requested.

It may be noted that district JDS president, Deviprasad Shetty, has already withdrawn the resignation he had sent from his post, owning moral responsibility for the poor performance of his party at the hustings.
