Daijiworld Media Nework – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Jan 8: In continuation of the theft that occurred late night on Wednesday January 5 at Lord Ramanjaneya temple in Kenjar near Bajpe, thieves broke into Vijayavittala temple in Bajpe on Thursday night. They took away ornaments and cash from the temple, besides desecrating the idols installed in the sanctum sanctorum.

Devotees were singing Bhajans in this temple till 9 pm, and the theft took place later, perhaps around midnight.  The thieves took away silver crown, silver idol of Lord Ganesha, gold chain and ear lobes, silver pedestal lamp, donation box and cash kept in a wooden cupboard. The lock of the temple was found to have been thrown away. The thieves also have broken open a cupboard placed inside another room and sifted through the contents therein.

On Wednesday, the thieves had not only stolen the articles, but also defecated in the upper storey of the temple. The act looks like having being executed by a professional gang.  A case has been registered in Bajpe police station, and investigation has been taken up.
