Mangalore, Jan 5: BJP district president, Padmanabha Kottary, expressed satisfaction at the fact that his party could come to power in Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat and also all the five taluk panchayats in the district, as it had projected earlier. He said that the ruling BJP has gained in popularity because of its people-centric programmes and development initiatives. Kottary predicted that the local bodies, in which BJP will be at the helm, will also go ahead with the implementation of developmental programmes.
“Our activists have worked hard for this victory. We are thankful to them. The party will strive to meet the promises it had made during the elections,” he added.
Dakshina Kannada district Congress president, Ramanath Rai, commenting about the poor performance of his party, said that it is common for a ruling party to fare well in the local bodies election. He felt that his party also suffered setbacks because of the fact that a number of names of voters, particularly belonging minorities, were deleted from the list of voters. He accused the BJP of using money and liquor to lure the voters towards itself. At the same time, he warned that winning on the basis of religious and caste affiliations will not be possible for long.
JDS Dakshina Kannada district president, M B Sadashiva, said that he had expected the voters to support his party, as an expression of resentment about the misrule of the BJP in this election. “Through its performance, the BJP has proved that better performance can be registered in elections by the misuse of money and power,” he felt.
