Mangalore, Jan 4: Relatives of a deceased teenager have alleged that the negligence of the doctors at the government Wenlock Hospital here to treat a girl named Zarina(18) had caused her death. Zarina, daughter of Mohammed Rafiq and Zainabi couple from Kanattadka near Vittal had breathed her last due to high fever in a private hospital here on Monday January 3. She had been admitted there on January 1.
“Zarina had been admitted into the government hospital, Puttur, on December 27, as she suffered from high fever. As the fever did not subside, and the girl started to vomit blood, she was brought to Wenlock Hospital on December 30. As the hospital authorities neglected her treatment, she became very weak, and her limbs lost strength completely,” they said.
The parents of Zarina had got their long-lost daughter back, after watching a CD named ‘Akrandana’ brought out by Jamiyyatul Falah four years ago. Hidayah Foundation had built a house for the family, and the family of late, had been on the look out for a groom for Zarina. The girl’s sudden death has come as a rude shock for her close ones.
District surgeon of Wenlock Hospital, Dr P Saroja, has explained that Zarina exhibited the symptoms of brain fever and that she was treated in the general ward, as no vacant beds were available in the intensive care unit of the hospital. She said that the family members were apprised of the prevailing conditions before admitting the patient, and that some medicines were administered to the patient. She said that she will look into the complaint made by the family.
