Mangalore, Dec 30: Walter D’Souza, a city based exporter has been unanimously elected as the chairman of Federation of Indian Export Organizations( FIEO), Southern Region under he ministry of Commerce and Industry.
He took charge of office at the FIEO headquarters in New Delhi at the 45th AGM, recently.
About FIEO
FIEO is an apex body of all the export promotion councils, commodity boards, service providers, IT exporters and has a membership of over 13,000 exporters from all over India. This is for the first time during 45 years of its existence that an exporter from the state of Karnataka has been elected to the coveted position.
The southern region of FIEO has its headquarters in Chennai with its offices in Bangalore and Hyderabad. It looks after the exports of the 5 southern sates of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Ponchicherry.
About Walter D’Souza
Walter D’Souza was the first exporter from the state to have been elected as the chairman of the Cashew Export Promotion Council of India under the ministry of Commerce and Industry ding 2005-2007. He has the unique distinction of having organized the first ever global buyer seller meet for cashews in 2006. Under his leadership, the first R & D centre for cashews was started in India.
As a board member of FIEO for four years, he has contributed immensely for the growth of exports from India. He has served as the president of Karnataka Cashew Manufacturers’ Association and spearheaded the move to transform Karnataka state as the fastest growing state for cashew processing in India.
Widely traveled, D’Souza has led many Indian export promotion delegations abroad and initiated bilateral and tripartite MoUs for enhancing India’s international trade. He has to his credit a number of presentations made at
His priority as the chairman of FIEO (SR) will be to highlight the need for infrastructure development in all the five Southern states as well as sector specific programmes with the support of state and central governments.
