Mangalore, Dec 29: Only continuous research and thought process will help a budding litterateur attain success, said Tulu Sahitya Academy president Vaman Nandavar.
He was speaking at the prize distribution ceremony of global level Tulu-Kannada poem competition held at the acedemy chavadi here, recently. Learning should be a never-ending process for those who are in persuasion of perfection. In this context, it is heartening to know that the programmes such as these are being organized by Kanchan Pratishthana, Bahrain, he said.
Chief guest, ltterateur and critic V G Nayak said that only literature can help preserve our beautiful Kannada language at a time when people communicating in pure Kannada language has drastically come down.
Speaking on the occasion, Akashvani, Karwar director Dr Vasantkumar Perla lamented that there has been no role model for upcoming Tulu-Kannada literatteurs as there lies lack of good literary guide with no many senior litterateurs. People are not interested to know or follow the existing few, he added.
Litterateur and researcher Dr kabbinale Vasant Bharadwaj also spoke on the occasion.
The poem competition was held in April - May 2010 by the pratishthana. While Rajendra Kedige, Mannagudda won the first place in Tulu section with Kavya Kanchana title, Sadanand padre and Shimantoor Chandrahas Suvarna won the second and third place, respectively. It was Abdul Hameed Pakkaladka who won the first place in kannada section getting the title Kavya Kedage. Sujata Devadiga Bijoor won the second place, while Shimantoor Chandrahas Suvarna won the third place in the section. While the first place winners won Rs 10,000 cash, the second place and third place winners took away Rs 7,000 and Rs 5,000, respectively. Ten others, five each from the two sections won the judges appreciation awards and took Rs 2,000 each home.
The Tulu section prize winners were awarded by vaman Nandavar, while it was Bharadwaj who gave away prizes to the kannada section winners.
The prize winners, K M Kotian, Sadanand padre and Abdul hameed spoke on the occasion and also recited the poems.
Tulu section judges were felicitated by academy registrar Chandrahas Rai B and kannada section judges by Perla.
Dance and music extravaganza were organized on the occasion. Chandrashekar Yermal and troupe gave a saxaphone recital, while Anant Satya Sanjeev played sitar. Melodious songs were sung by Sangeeta Balachandra and Pallavi Prabhu with Amrita Vasudev presented a dance programme. V G Nayak gave away mementoes to these artistes.
Pratishthana chief convenor Leeladhar Baikampady welcomed, gave introductory address and delivered the vote of thanks. Dramatist and journalist Yashvant Boloor compered the programme.
