Riyadh: Ardha dance history presented at Dubai Expo by Saudi pavilion

Riyadh, Feb 12: Cultural programmes that throw light on the cultural renaissance in Saudi Arabia are presented in the Saudi Pavilion at the Dubai Expo.

Ancient heritage of art and the Saudi Ardha dance are presented to the visitors by the Saudi pavilion. Ardha dance is on the list of intangible cultural heritage dances of UNESCO.

When warriors were facing enemy, the performance was done in olden times with a chant to inspire them to fight. The dancers use swords while dancing and dance to the beat of drums.

Visitors from countries like Russia, France, India, UAE, Tunisia and Ireland were called upon stage by the leader of the troupe and asked them to dance to the beat of drums.

The crowd were enthralled by the dance teaching given by the leader of the Saudi troupe.

The best performers in the ancient heritage art were given prizes at the enf of the programme by the Saudi pavilion. The crowd said that the experience was very satisfying and they also got a chance to know the history behind the traditional dance.
