Bengaluru, May 2: Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board (KSEAB) on Friday announced the results of the SSLC examination.

Dakshina Kannada (DK) and Udupi have secured the first and second place in the state respectively with 91.12% and 89.96% pass percentages respectively. 

Swasthi Kamath, a student from Jnanasudha English Medium School, Ganitha Nagar, Karkala in Udupi district, has secured a perfect score of 625 out of 625 marks in the SSLC examination.

Karnataka has recorded a significant improvement in its SSLC exam performance this academic year, with a pass percentage of 62.34%, an increase of 8% from the previous year. Education minister Madhu Bangarappa, speaking at a press conference, highlighted that girls continued their trend of outperforming boys, with a pass percentage of 74% compared to 58.07% for boys. Out of the total 5,24,984 students who cleared the exam, 2,96,438 were girls and 2,26,637 were boys.

In a remarkable achievement, 22 students secured a perfect score of 625 out of 625 marks. This is a sharp rise from last year when only two students managed the feat. Notably, this year includes two students from government schools among those who scored full marks.

Among other districts, Karwar bagged the third spot at 83.19%. Kalaburagi recorded the lowest performance with a pass rate of 42.43%. The Bengaluru region saw moderate success, with Bengaluru Rural at ninth place (74.02%), Bengaluru South at tenth (72.3%), and Bengaluru North at eleventh (72.27%).

Minister Bangarappa also shared concerns over the performance of certain schools, revealing that 144 institutions registered zero pass results. This includes six government schools, 30 aided schools, and 108 unaided schools. Despite this, government schools posted a pass rate of 62.07%, aided schools 58.97%, and unaided schools fared better with 75.59%.

Interestingly, students from rural areas outperformed their urban counterparts. A total of 2,24,900 rural students (67.05%) passed the exams, compared to 2,98,175 urban students (65.47%).

Reflecting on the previous year’s confusion, the minister pointed out that webcasting was introduced to uphold the integrity of the exams. He added that the initial SSLC results last year were lower until grace marks were awarded. Minister Bangarappa acknowledged chief minister Siddaramaiah’s role in driving improvements, stating that the CM had given the department clear directions and targets, which helped boost this year’s performance.
