Puttur, Dec 27: After a trailer fell across national highway 48 on Shiradi Ghat stretch of the road on Sunday December 26, traffic on the highway was severely affected.
The number of vehicles taking this battered road has gone up substantially because of the blocking of Sampaje-Madikeri stretch of Mangalore-Mysore state highway for development works. A trailer had fallen across Shiradi Ghat road here during last week. The trailer had later been moved aside to allow the vehicles to move along. On Sunday, efforts were made to lift the trailer and place it back on its wheels, but the trailer slipped and fell again across the road during operations.
As a result, the vehicles bound for Bangalore and other places on the other side of the Ghat were forced to take a detour via Charmadi Ghat road, which also is in a pathetic state.
