Karkala, Jan 24: A youth from Karkala had attempted suicide in Odisha. When being brought to his native place, he had died on the way. Because of procedural issues over the jurisdiction of the police stations of different states, his body continued to remain in the mortuary of a private hospital in Manipal for three days. After district superintendent of police, Vishnuvardhan, intervened, the problem was sorted out and the body was given to the concerned on January 22.
The youth in question was from Karkala. He has been identified as Kartik (25), a resident of Immunje Road, Banglegudde, Karkala. He was working in Odisha. On some issue, he had consumed poison in an effort to end his life. He was admitted into a hospital there. After providing treatment, he was being brought back home when he breathed his last on the way. Later, his body was kept in the mortuary of a private hospital in Manipal.
Kartik had attempted suicide within the limits of Paradeep Lock police station Odisha. Therefore, the police personnel from there were to arrive here to register the case as per procedure. Karkala station police personnel had sent a memo to Paradeep Lock police station in this connection but there was no response for three days. The body therefore remained in Manipal hospital.
After the family members of the youth met district superintendent of police, Vishnuvardhan, and pleaded with him, under his instruction, the case was registered on Saturday in Karkala police station, before handing over the body to the family members.
