Udupi, Dec 17: “Is Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji of Pejavar Mutt a universal saint respected by all the religions, or he is just a supporter of the BJP? This doubt has arisen, as Vishwa Hindu Parishat leader, Ashok Singhal, projected Congress party as anti-Hindu, in the presence of the Swamiji during the 80th birthday celebrations of the latter. He also had talked derisively of our leader, Sonia Gandhi. Will the Swamiji issue a statement condemning what Singhal had said, or will he like to be identified as a supporter of the BJP?” questioned district Congress president, Gopal Poojary.

Addressing his maiden press conference after assuming power as the district Congress president, Poojary also criticized the district administration for issuing permission for holding Hindu Samajotsava even when the code of conduct relating to elections is in force. “The district administration has exhibited its duality by rejecting permission to hold installation ceremony of Vandse block Congress committee in Kundapur taluk,” he said. He accused the BJP of organizing Hindu Samajotsavas every time an election approaches the state.  He called upon the people to introspect on the efforts being made by the BJP to project itself as the champion of Hindus only when an election is ahead.

While saying that the list of the party candidates for the zilla and taluk panchayat elections from the district  has almost been finalized, he informed that new faces have been given opportunities liberally this time. He also revealed that the party will bank on corruption of the state government, curtailing of gram panchayats powers, non-release of grants to taluk and zilla panahcyats, land scams, improper distribution of ration cards and other issues, while seeking votes from the people.
