Mangalore, Dec 16: Mangalore University (MU) vice chancellor (VC), Prof T C Shivashankara Murthy, warned the postgraduate colleges to stick to the stipulation about the intake of students for each class. “If they admit students in excess of the strength stipulated by the university, and if such a step interferes with the future prospects of the students, MU will not accept any responsibility whatsoever,” he clarified.

He was addressing the third general session of the academic council, held at the university senate hall on Wednesday December 15.

“There is a provision for government degree colleges alone to admit students over and above stipulated quota, with the condition that this should not exceed 10% of allotted strength. Even for this admission, permission from the university is mandatory. However, none of the postgraduate colleges of sections have permission to exceed the intake limit, and the concerned colleges will be held directly responsible for these violations,” he warned.

He informed that a decision has been taken to appoint an estate officer to look after the maintenance and safekeeping of university buildings, power plants, guest houses etc, and that the estate officer would be vested with some specific powers.

The VC also noted that because of the violation of rules and stipulations by some autonomous colleges, students had suffered. He called upon the colleges not to give scope for such violations in future.

Murthy said that during this academic year, the university has received a total of Rs 11.35 crore as grant, including one crore rupees from University Grants Commission. He said that this sum would be utilized for improving facilities in various departments of the university.

University registrar, Dr Chinnappa Gowda, registrar (evaluation), Dr P S Yadapadittaya, and finance officer, P M Pakirappa, were present.
