Puttur: Demand for Bribe to Disburse Pension – Lokayukta Nabs Official

Puttur, Dec 14: Treasury officer in the local taluk office named Venkataramana was nabbed by the Lokayukta officials on Monday December 13. He was reportedly accepting bribe for disbursement of pension and pension fund to the family of a teacher named Gurumurty, who had died recently.

Gurumurty, a resident of Kadaba, was working as lecturer in the government PU college here till recently. He had lost his life in a motor bike accident. A sum of Rs 2.3 lac had been sanctioned by the government to the family of Gurumurty towards pension fund and arrears of pension. Treasury officer in taluk office, Venkataramana, reportedly pestered the family to part with Rs 3,000 before he could prepare a cheque representing the above amount.

Keshavamurty, son of Gurumurty, had complained to the district Lokayukta against the official. As per the guidance of the Lokayukta officials, he gave his consent to pay Rs 2,500 to the above official. When the amount was being handed over to the Venkataramana on Monday December 13 afternoon, the Lokayukta officials raided the office and caught the official red-handed.

Lokayukta inspector, Udaya Nayak, sub-inspector, Lakshmikant, and Dilip Kumar took part in the operation.
