Kasargod, Jan 17: Deputy Commissioner Bhandary Swagat has announced new restrictions in the district in view of the spike in Covid cases.
The number of people that can attend social, cultural, religious programmes, weddings and funerals are restricted to 50. “The Covid positivity rate has gone up by more than 20 percent since January 15. The restrictions are imposed in view of this,” informed the deputy commissioner.
He has directed the closure of educational institutes within the clusters for 15 days. The respective heads of schools need to look into the matter and inform the health department in this connection.
Crowding should be avoided at markets, tourist centers and beaches. The police, sector magistrate and local officials should ensure that the directions are strictly followed. Government and private meetings and functions should be held online, ordered DC.
Religious, political, cultural and public programmes should be held online as far as possible. More than 50 people should not participate in the programmes held offline. “Covid protocol should be observed mandatorily,” said the DC.
“Those who take part in the programmes should wear masks and maintain social distance. Those who have Covid symptoms should not visit public places. They should undergo Covid tests. People should compulsorily wear masks in offices, public places and market places and observe other Covid regulations,” he said.
