Mangalore, Dec 13: Satya Bhadravati, state secretary of Karnataka Dalit Sangharsha Samiti criticized the lack of interest by the state government towards dalit community particularly in the district. Dr Ambedkar Samudaya Bhavan which existed in 29 districts of the state has not been built in the district. This is a severe insult for the dalits in Dakshina Kannada district, he said at a press conference held here on Monday December 13.

He urged the district in-charge minister and the district administration to take up the issue seriously, failure of the same may counter strong protest, he warned. The basic problems prevailing in the hostels of scheduled caste and tribes have to be solved, and additional students should be admitted to benefit them. Focusing on the security of dalit, he said PTCL land documents have to be managed immediately and the land should be given to daliths.

Another demand he made with the district administration was to avail the reasonable amount of salary, PF, ESI and LIC facilities for the contract civic workers working in City Corporation.

He lamented over the ‘unscientific’ decision of fixing the income limit of Rs 1 lac for SC ST workers while opting for any government facilities, he demanded income limit should be increased to Rs 5 lac.

 “The proposed amendment in the Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Cattle Preservation Act, 1964 is absolutely draconian. The government is targeting a particular community under the guise of cow preservation whereas beef is an essential part of the Indian food culture,” he said.

M Devdas, state union secretary and Shekar Chilimbi, district union secretary among others were present.
