Panaji, Jan 3: First dose of covaxin will be administered to students in the age group of 15 to 18 years within four days beginning from January 3. This information was shared to the media by Vishwajit Rane, minister for health.
Rane said that the state has sufficient stock of vaccines and the students will be vaccinated in the 529 schools in the state.
The minister said that the health department plans to cover the students within four days to avoid overlapping of the onset of third wave. In addition, the student will also develop immunity by the time the third wave hits the state according to the information given by Dr Ira Almeida, director of health services.
Recently the expert committee on Covid recommended to close the schools for 15 days due to the increasing number of Covid infections. There is no need for consent forms as conveyed by immunisation officer Dr Rajendra Borkar as Children will be vaccinated in schools. They will coordinate directly with the health department.
Those of the students who have comorbidities or other anxiousness issues about taking vaccine, can get the same in district hospital or PHCs.
