Panaji, Dec 11: Rohan Khaunte, MLA of Provorim made a U-turn on Friday, December 10 and said that he will not join Congress but contest as an independent MLA in the coming assembly elections.
Khanute questioned the preparedness of Congress for the polls while other parties have taken their stance already. His supporters also quit Congress en masse a little while before his announcements.
Rohan said that Congress does not have any significant presence in Porvorim. He also said that other parties are marching ahead while Congress is still stuck.
Khaunte’s supporters lost their patience and quit Congress as the party did not appoint Gupesh Naik, former zilla panchayat member as the president of block Congress.
Rohan said that the party has been dallying on the issue of appointing president for Porvorim block since a month and it is nowhere near winning the elections.
“Congress is relying on press conferences and protests to win the upcoming elections rather than appointing faithful workers of the party to vital positions,” said Rohan Khaunte.
