Govt willing to provide 200 acres of land near BIAL for semi-conductor sector

Bengaluru, Dec 4: The State Government is willing to provide 200 acres of land near Kempe Gowda International Airport operated by the Bengaluru International Airport Ltd (BIAL) to facilitate the growth of semiconductor industries, Dr C N Ashwatha Narayana, Minister for Electronics, IT/BT, and S & T, said on Saturday.

Speaking in a webinar on 'India Opportunities in Semiconductor Packaging – Sector-wise perspective of an OSAT' organised by the Electronic Industries Association of India ( ELCINA), he said the government will also provide required amenities like water, power etc., to the proposed land.

The Union government has stood for the growth of the electronic industry by bringing out production-linked incentive schemes.

Along with this, the State Government has earmarked Rs 2000 crore as subsidy for a period of 5 years to support the development of industry and this has resulted in a very positive impact, he said.

“The ecosystem for the flourish of electronics sector is very conducive and the country’s consumption per capita with regard to electronic goods is also increasing. This opportunity should be best made of to build the nation by responding to Atma Nirbhar initiatives,’’ Dr Naryana opined.

“All the emerging industries such as robotics, artificial intelligence, , Medical devices, telemedicine, Industry 4.0, Consumer electronics, Space and Defense etc. primarily depend on electronics. Considering this, to facilitate the growth of the industry- government has come out with the Engineering Research and Development Policy and upgraded ITI’s, GTTC’s across the state together with revamping curriculum in higher education courses,” he explained.

Dr Ashwin Agarwal, Raju Goel, Amrit Manwani, Raju Manikyam, Mukul Yuddhaveera Singh were among a few who were present.

    Good news. I am very happy to know that Karnataka govt is ready to give land etc. Device manufacturing fab is a must for India. Car industry and other electronic equipment makers are feeling the heat now as there is heavy requirement right now. Packaging the devices is the first step and requires less investmentment. But the real challenge is setting up the manufacturing facilities like the Koreans has. Billions of dollars is required for it. We have good designers. Skilled workers, backup for the industry is a job. Processing and packaging of sub- micron devices require good knowledge of the field. Many Indian experts are there working in other countries. Technology tie up is a must for speedy setup. Hope we will see it in Karnataka soon.
