Udupi, Dec 3: Public stood along the road as an ambulance was going with a blaring siren. As they were watching, the ambulance stopped in the middle of the road. Social workers Nithyananda Olakadu and Tharanath Mestha Shiroor were transporting a pregnant woman in an ambulance to the hospital. However, the woman gave birth to the baby in the ambulance itself due to the huge potholes on the road. This occurred on the Gundibail-Adkadakatte road on Thursday, December 2.
The incident is not real but was a mock drill that was held to bring to light the plight of the road, which has been completely damaged for many years.
Mannequins of mother and child were used by the social workers in the mock operation. They urged the administration to at least wake up now and get the road repaired as it is really difficult to shift sick and pregnant people to hospital on the road. Students going to school are facing problems during the rainy season also on Gundibail-Adkadakatte road.
