Mangalore, Nov 18: A ten-day national training for life guards began at Panambur beach near here on Monday November 15. A batch of 15 persons, drawn from Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat, are being trained in the skills of saving lives during emergencies.
Those who complete this training programme successfully will be eligible for being appointed as life guards at various places. Yatish Bykampady of Panambur Beach Development Project informed that such training is being conducted in the country for the first time.
This training has been organized under the aegis of National Life Saving Society, Maharashtra, Surf Life Saving from Australia, and Panambur Beach Development Project. An agreement to conduct this training had been entered into when the head of Surf Life Saving had visited the city recently, and an expert of that firm too is involved with the imparting of training, Bykampady said.
The training regimen includes training in driving speed boats, jetty boats etc., providing first aid to the victims and techniques for saving lives during emergencies. He said that a demonstration of their skills by the trainees will be conducted at Panambur beach on November 20 morning.
