Bangalore, Nov 17: State higher education minister, Dr V S Acharya, said that it has been decided to issue tamper proof certificates through the universities functioning in the state henceforth. He said that this step has become imperative in view of a number of cases of making alternations to these certificates and their fraudulent use coming to light. He noted that many a time, students from India face embarrassment while presenting certificates issued by universities here while seeking employment abroad.
Addressing a press conference after participating in a meeting with the vice chancellors of the universities functioning in the state on Tuesday November 16, he said that at present, the universities follow their own academic calendars He revealed that he has advised the state council of higher education (SCHE) to coordinate with all the vice chancellors to ensure that a uniform academic calendar that has to be followed by all the universities is prepared by December 31 this year.
On the financial front, the universities put forth their financial woes before the minister, as a result of the implementation of the recommendations of the sixth pay commission, and sought immediate assistance from the state government to tide over the situation. Dr Acharya said that the Knowledge Commission has already been assessing the financial positions of universities, and that he would ask SCHE to study the financial positions of the universities and make suitable recommendations.
Chief secretary in the higher education department, Madan Gopal, Knowledge Commission chairman, Sridhar, and vice chancellors of all the universities participated in the meeting.
