Bangalore, Nov 15: “Does BJP not have any virile legislators, who are able to take the mantle of the state from the hands of Yeddyurappa? Are there no capable men in the BJP, who can head the state? Why is Yeddyurappa allowed to continue as Chief Minister (CM)?” questioned former union minister, Janardan Poojary, launching a scathing attack on the CM in a voice filled with sarcasm, at a press conference held at the Press Club here on Sunday November 14.
He also challenged RSS to prove its commitment and clout, if it has any, by unseating the Chief Minister, and by choosing an able candidate in his place. “The BJP government is suffering from the cancer of corruption. It is in coma, and is in the intensive care unit. It will not live for long,” he said satirically.
Poojary said that the BJP leaders like Advani, Jaitley, Gadkari and Sushma Swaraj speak in a tone and tenor which makes one believe that they are capable of giving advice to the whole nation. “They created furore over the involvement of Maharashtra Chief Minister, Ashok Chavan, in a scam. Sonia Gandhi took a right step in this case. At the same time, the BJP top brass has turned a blind eye to what is happening in Karnataka,” he criticized. He blamed these leaders for their inaction, even after documentary proof was provided about the Chief Minister’s involvement with supporting corruption, and in misusing of his powers.
“Yeddyurappa has also been teaching the lessons of corruption to his children. He sanctioned land to build a hospital in Shimoga. To another son, he sanctioned a site in Bangalore. To benefit MLA, Hemachandra Sagar, he denotified ten acres of land. All these steps have given rise to a feeling among the people that politicians are robbers,” he said.
He also criticized the Chief Minister for requesting the women, after distributing saris to them under ‘Bhagyalaxmi’ scheme in Mysore, to pray to the deities after returning to their homs, for the welfare of himself and his children. “This shows how selfish he is,” he remarked.
