Puttur, Nov 21: A man allegedly opened fire over a land dispute with a relative at Koyakude Veeramangala of Shanthigodu village here on Sunday November 21.

The accused, Devappa Gowda, allegedly fired with his rifle during a heated argument with his brother and sister-in-law over cultivation in a piece of land.

As per the complaint, Devappa's sister-in-law Darnamma, her husband Babu Gowda and son Ravi K were cultivating vegetables in their own land, when Devappa Gowda came with a rifle and claimed that the land belonged to him. He also allegedly threatened to kill them if they grow any vegetables in the said land.

An argument ensued during which he opened fire at Darnamma's family, and fortunately they escaped unhurt.

A case has been registered in Puttur town police station under sections 506, 307 of IPC and section 25 and 27 of Indian Arms Act.

    Today land records are better maintained Surveys etc .. digitised .. Google etc .. Even private surveyors available ..many are ex govt surveyors ... Just to confirm for both parties..on land extant etc etc this can be used .. Agreed private surveys cannot give final authenticity but if govt survey delayed ... if immediate needed ..they are available As per fees .... The private survey is basically accurate ..but final validation Will be govt survey ..

    A RIP VAN WINKLE ACT ... His tactics might have worked possibly 100 years back ..threats ..murder etc .. ...now it is more rule by law ...21 st century .. Today police and legal systems .. are fairly robust atleast such cases ..maybe uttarpradesh happens not Dakshina Kannada.. general... Not sure on his gun license .. etc Will face charges of intended murder erc ... All in all No peaceful life for this act ...from now on .. arrest ..courts etc

    It is possible for Government to give sketch and all related documents to every piece of land with the aid of new technology , if there is determination. Surveyors are not available for few weeks though the required fees are remitted in advance .Situations don't change unless the government hastens the system . People can only witness violence and quarrel .

    Gurka, BJP is alway uttering congress mantra just to divert attention of blind bhakths from its failures, nothing more than that. BJP so far has achived nothing development nor any other good to show . Only religious card playing. Dont ask about governance. Only rapes, murders, destroying communal harmony.

    This is the result of governments inability to solve land disputes over decades. Land disputes can be solved within minutes if all the concerned parties & concerned government officials visit the spot & give clear instructions to both the parties, make a proper sketch & marking, documentation. This is the easy way of solving any disputes on the spot than going to courts, Taluk offices, Survey offices & roam around these offices for years without any concrete solution. Government has to direct the officials to visit the spot & call all the concerned parties & solve the pending disputes for the betterment of the society & peaceful mind, peace to the public.

    A piece of land is sometimes can become death spot for some .without knowing whom it belongs.They must have I am sure fought many times .Otherwise he wouldnt fire.Anyway ,no weapons shouldnt be brought in for a piece of land.Take out your land map ,clear it before starting to cultivation.When none ask the land lord before you start to put a leg in that land.Hope whoever fired ,should be punished for shooting.It is almost like murder attack.No way.

    Puttur upto Belthangady Dharmastala are frequently in the news for all sorts of illegal activities. The lax law and order situation is no deterrent to such acts.
