Mangaluru, Nov 19: In an incident which happened at Daddalkad near Urwa Store in the city recently, men who posed as municipal officials entered a house, stole gold ornaments and cash.
Two persons arrived at a house in Daddalkad where a lady lives alone, at around 10.30 am on November 16. They introduced themselves as health department officials of the city corporation and claimed that they were there to verify cleanliness aspects. They led the lady to the rear side of her house and acted like checking the cleanliness of the surroundings there. The woman then sought help from a neighbouring woman. The neighbour expressed suspicion about the visitors and sought to check the identity cards of the visitors. The two said that the cards were in the motorbike and returned in their two-wheelers. The lady checked in the evening and found that 68 grams of gold ornaments and Rs 71,000 in cash were stolen from the almirah placed inside her house.

It is said that when the two men were talking to the lady in the backyard, another person clandestinely entered the house unnoticed by the lady. He used the key of the almirah that was hung close to the almirah, and took away cash and ornaments, it is learnt.
Urwa station police personnel who have registered a case of theft, are now verifying the CCTV footages in the area.
