Bangalore, Nov 11: The state government, through an order issued on Wednesday November 10, dissolved Karnataka Urdu Academy, which was headed by Khaleel Mamoon.
A release from the government said that Kannada and culture department director, Manu Baligar, will henceforth look after the functions of the said academy till it is reorganized.
The government was incensed at the fact that the academy president had decided to organize World Urdu Convention in the city, without obtaining approval of the state government in advance, in December this year. He had also invited the Prime Minister for the event. Besides, he had written letters to various organizations in the country working for the progress of Urdu, seeking financial assistance from them for the above event. The Urdu Academy of Jammu and Kashmir, in response to the above request, already has sent a cheque for five lac rupees as its donation.
