Mangaluru, Oct 27: The Lokayukta, which has registered a suo motu complaint against Dakshina Kannada (DK) district deputy commissioner (DC), has served notices to the deputy commissioner and several other officials. It has taken serious view of the fact that effluents from the industrial area at Jokatte are flowing into the rivulet and River Phalguni.
The Lokayukta has taken the issue of waste reaching the sources of freshwater and polluting it seriously. It has asked the deputy commissioner, city corporation commissioner, member secretary of pollution control board, Mangaluru tahsildar, Karnataka State Pollution Control Board senior environment officer, and managing director of a factory to file a report before November 2 containing a report on the current situation and steps taken to control the pollution.
Lokayukta Justice P Vishwanath Shetty in his 23 page notice, has expressed deep concern about the environment pollution. He has mentioned in the notice about a Supreme Court verdict that has said that it is the duty of the state and the officials to stop environmental pollution.
