Udupi, Oct 26: A weeklong Yaksha Astaha programme is being held under the aegis of Paryaya Adamar Math by Karnataka Janapada Parishat, Kannada department of culture, Tallur's Family Trust and Dhareshwara Yaksha Balaga at Krishna math Naraharitheertha auditorium here. Well known Yakshagana artist Belthur Ramesh was presented first year’s Tallur family award 2021 during the programme.
Ishapriya Theertha Sripada of Adamaru math handed over the award and said that an artiste is the one who nurtures and grows the art. “The awards are being presented with the desire that the future generation should grow the arts,” he said.
Tallur family trust president Tallur Shivarama Shetty said that the artistes of the old generation have remained in the service of the art despite hardship for the current generation.
Entrepreneur Suresh Shetty Gurme, Karnataka bank assistant general manager B Rajagopal Tantri, Yakshsiri trust’s Dr H S Mohan Sagar, H S Manjappa Sagar and Belthur Ramesh were present.
Yakshagana artist Subrahmanya Dhareshwar welcomed and gave an introduction. Critic S V Udaya Kumar Shetty read the felicitation letter and gave a congratulatory address. Karnataka Janapada Parishat Udupi taluk president Sunil Kumar compered the programme.
The Yaksha week will be held from October 23 to 30 every night at 7.30 pm. Vishwapriya Theertha Sripada and Ishapriya Theertha Sripada will be giving away the concluding address on October 30. Several yakshagana plays are being performed on those days are being transmitted by Subrahmanya and Dhareshwara Youtube channels.
Subrahmanya Dhareshwara, Chandrakanth Moodubelle, Sudhir Perdoor, Gajanana Bhandary Bolgere, Shashi Achar, Shivananda Kota, Kondadakuli Ramachandra Hegde, Ashok Bhat Siddapur, Shanker Hegde Nilkodu, Mugwa Ganesh Naik, Sudhir Uppoor, Nagesh Kulimane, Lokesh Gunavanthe, Karthik Kanni and Sridhar Bhat Kasargod will take part in the plays.
