Bangalore, Oct 28: Speaking to press persons here on Wednesday October 27, higher education minister, Dr V S Acharya, accused the state Governor, H R Bhardwaj, of insulting the state government. “We have already complained to the union home minister about the Governor’s attitude in tampering with the rights of the state government,” he said.
“The state government had finalized three names for the post of the vice chancellor of Karnatak University, Dharwad, duly recommending the name of Prof S B Hinchigeri for the post. The Governor, without giving any credence to our recommendations, appointed Prof H B Walikar as the vice chancellor, which is an act of infringement on the rights of the government. We were not even consulted before finalizing Prof Walikar’s name. We had no other option but to complain,” he explained.
Acharya said that the name of Prof Hinchigeri had been recommended on the basis of his experience and eligibility. He denied the allegations that caste calculations had worked behind this recommendation. He questioned the propriety of the state Governor, who he said is expected to ensure justice, violating the rules himself.
At the same time, Acharya said that the law department has given oral clearance to take legal action against retired vice chancellor of Mysore University, Dr Shashidhar Prasad, and Bijapur Women’s University retired vice chancellor, Prof Syeda Akhtar, for the irregularities committed by them while in office. He said that before initiating steps, opinion of legal experts would be sought again.
