Mangaluru, Oct 15: 'Pingara' had earlier won the best Tulu film Award at the 67th National Film Awards for the year 2019. The award will now be conferred during the 67th annual National Film Awards ceremony scheduled on October 25 in Vignyan Bhawan, Delhi.
Film and serial director Preetham Shetty directed the movie. Avinash Shetty produced the film. Neema Ray, Sharan Shetty, Usha Bhandary, Guru Hegde, Sunil Nelligudde, Prashanth and Ranjith acted in the movie. Cinematographer V Pawan handled the cinematography, and Sinchana Chandramohan from Kushalnagar designed the costumes and also played a prominent role in the film.
The story is based on the 'Bootharadane' in Tulunadu. 'Pingara' was selected for Kannada and Indian film competition sections of the 12th Bengaluru International Film Festival (BIFFES) in 2020. There, it won the Network for Promotion of Asian Cinema (NETPAC) award for best Asian movie. The movie was also selected for various International Film Festivals in 2020 in Chennai and Rajasthan.
The award will be conferred by Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu on October 25 at Vignyan Bhawan in Delhi, informed the film board in a release.
