Bengaluru, Oct 14: Chief minister Basavaraj Bommai's statement about moral policing that it is but natural for reaction to follow action has met with widespread anger.
Bommai had made this statement on Wednesday. He had said that when emotions are hurt, naturally reactions happen, duly adding that it is the duty of the government to protect social harmony. This statement has been shared through the state BJP social website. Several have criticized the statement of the chief minister. A huge campaign under the head, #BommaiStopMoralPolicing, has been launched on Twitter.
Congress and JD(S) expressed concern about the fact that the chief minister had issued statement in support of people who are engaged in communal rowdyism. They feel that this is a dangerous development as there is the risk of people indulging in more such acts, the Congress and JD(S) members have commented, expressing concern.
Congress spokesperson Lavanya Ballal, noted that the chief minister of the state has supported communal goondas. She wondered what can be expected from others if the chief minister behaves like this. She advised the people of the state to keep themselves safe without expecting the government to look after their safety.
Democratic Youth Federation of India state president, Muneer Katipalla, said that the statement made by the chief minister who took oath in the name of the constitution is shameful. He expressed the fear that communalists who get encouraged by the said statement, are sure to take to streets. He asked the chief minister to seek an apology from the citizens of the state.
Youth Congress president, Mohammad Haris Nalapad, said that such reckless statements create worry about the safety of the people. He said that it is the responsibility of the government to protect the people but this irresponsible government has been trying to create rift between the people.
