Panaji, Oct 27: Eduardo Faleiro, the vibrant leader of the national and the state politics was felicitated by the Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industries at the hands of Union Road Transport and Highway minister Kamal Nath on turning 70 years recently.
Eduardo Faleiro was felicitated at the hands of Union Road Transport and Highway minister Kamal Nath at the Taleigao Community Hall in Taleigao in the auspicious presence of Chief minister Digambar Kamat, Speaker of the Goa Legislative Assembly Pratapsingh Rane, North Goa MP Shripad Naik, President of Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industries Ceaser Menezes, Goa CPI chief Christopher Fonseca and others.
Faleiro has served the state and national politics in various capacities. Faleiro has held many portfolios as Union Minister of state in the Cabinet of the National Government from 1986-1996. Eduardo Faleiro served as the minsiter for External Affairs, Finance, Oceans, Chemicals & Fertilizers, Ocean Development, Electronics and Parliamentary Affairs. Eduardo Faleiro was the first Goan ever to address the United Nation's General Assembly when he was appointed as the member of the Indian Delegation to the United Nations in 1992. He was a well trusted member of the council of ministers during the Indira Gandhi regime followed by Rajiv Gandhi and P.V. Narasimha Rao.
Eduardo Faleiro is presently serving as the Commissioner for NRI Affairs upon his appointment by the Goa Government in 2006, with the rank of a cabinet member.
