Udupi, Oct 13: Dr Shakila Sachin, serving as an ophthalmologist serving in Manjunatha eye hospital, Bannanje here, had filed a complaint in the town police station here on September 24 this year, about a theft which happened in her inspection room in the hospital on the night of September 23. She said on that night, someone broke open the shutter of the hospital, flipped the lock of the drawer of the room, and took away Rs 4,74,500 found in the lower drawer and the reception counter. The CCTV DVR was also stolen, and the total value of things stolen was put at Rs 4,79,500.
The police collected the physical features of the man by checking the CCTV cameras installed in the buildings, houses, shops etc around the hospital building and found them matching with those of Suresh Poojary who faced a case in Karkala. Town police station head constable Lokesh and constable Santosh Rathod, took him into custody from near the KSRTC bus stand here at around 5.30 am on October 11.
During the investigation, it was found that he was involved with various incidents of theft and he confessed to have been involved with thefts of a motorbike from Malpe society and another bike from Garadi road here, in addition to the theft at Manjunatha eye hospital. A total of Rs 4,32,000 in cash, two motorbikes and two mobile phones were confiscated from his possession.
The investigation was conducted under the directions of district superintendent of police, N Vishnuvardhan, additional police superintendent Kumar Chandra and deputy superintendent of police, Sudhakar Sadanand Naik. The police found that Suresh Poojary (40), happens to be a resident of Acchottu Darkhas House, Athoor village Nitte Karkala taluk. He faces a total of 11 cases so far spread over Shirva, Hiriadka, Karkala town, Padubidri, Mulki, Belagavi and Davanagere police stations.
