Bantwal, Oct 9: Police have taken four accused into custody in connection with a gangrape of minor girl by five men in Amtadi under Bantwal town police station.
KS Sharath Shetty of Kaup, Maruti Manjunath, Lodge Sathish and Idayathulla are the four accused arrested in the case. It is said that, Sharath is known to the victim. Out of the four arrested, two are accused of the crime, informed police sources.
The accused who came in a white car on Friday at 7 am, while the victim was going to school from her home. The accused, who is known to the victim along with other accused, took the girl to an undisclosed location in Amtadi and raped her, the girl stated in the complaint.
The girl who is ill, at present, is being treated in a hospital in Mangaluru.
As per the statement of the victim, a special police team took the four accused including the prime accused into custody on Saturday and subjected them to severe interrogation.
Reportedly, the accused had given drug-laced chocolate to the girl. After committing the crime, they dropped her near the toll gate in Brahmarakootlu. Reportedly, this is recorded in the CCTV cameras at the spot.
Five people are said to be involved in the crime and the police are successful in nabbing four accused.
According to the police, it is learnt that Sharath came in contact with the victim on social media. He used to speak to her on phone. Later, he introduced the victim to his relative, Maruti Manjunath who took advantage of the girl. He used to send explicit messages and chat on WhatsApp.
On October 8, accused Sharath had asked the victim to come to Mangaluru. After the girl came on a bus to Mangaluru, Sharath met her and took her to a private lodge and sexually exploited her. Later, he called his friend Idayathulla to the lodge. Idayathulla who went to the lodge also sexually exploited the victim.
Lodge Sathish, who allowed other accused to sexually exploit the girl in the lodge, also sexually harassed the girl by touching her private parts. After the incident, the girl had come to Bantwal by bus.

Bantwal, Oct 9: It is reported that miscreants gangraped a minor girl at Amtadi within the limits of the town police station here. A case under different sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act stands registered at the town police station here relating to this incident.
Considering that there are some loose ends in the information gathered so far, the police have taken this case in all seriousness. The incident is likely to be considered as a gangrape.
It is said that the accused took the girl to an undisclosed destination where she was raped. On the basis of the statement made by the girl, the police have got clues about the accused. They have now been trying to arrest them.
The accused, after taking the girl to a secluded spot, had dropped her off near Brahmarakootlu and reportedly this is recorded by the CCTV cameras at the spot.
According to the FIR, the victim, a 16-year-old girl, was walking on the road on her way from her residence to her school at about 7 am on October 8 when she was kidnaped by a man and his accomplices who came in a white car. She was gangraped by five people. The minor girl is currently admitted as an in-patient at the Lady Goshen Hospital, Mangaluru as directed by government hospital, Bantwal on October 8.
A case in this connection is registered on the basis of statement by the victim at Bantwal police station under crime registration under section 376(D), 506 IPC and section 04, 06 POCSO Act.
