Udupi, Oct 6: Malpe beach here has been witnessing several incidents in which tourists ignore warnings and try to swim in the sea. Often they put their lives into danger. In one such incident which happened on Tuesday October 5, a tourist drowned in the sea while four others were rescued.
Akhter (23), who was a resident of Vinod Nagar, Tumakuru and a mechanic by profession, lost his life. Mohammed Pasha and Ibrahim, who too faced danger to their lives, were rescued.

An eight-member team of tourists from Tumakuru had arrived at Malpe Beach in the afternoon. At about 2.30 pm, the team members were swimming when three were dragged away by the waves. Immediately, the team of lifeguards used jet skis and saved two. Akhter however had gone missing and his lifeless body was recovered after some time.
At about 11 am on Tuesday, two youngsters from Hassan were saved by the lifeguards. On Tuesday, the sea was tumultuous and the visitors were repeatedly warned not to enter the sea but some continued to invite danger by going into the sea by escaping our attention, said one of the lifeguards. On Wednesday, because of the new moon day, the water pressure will be high in the sea and entering the sea and swimming except for those who take holy bath as per customs have been banned, the concerned said.
