Mangalore, Oct 22: Mangalore University vice chancellor, Prof T C Shivashankara Murthy, informed that all the autonomous colleges functioning under the university have since agreed to abide by the examination roles of the university. He was addressing the second general body meeting of the university’s Academic Council held at the new senate hall on Thursday October 21.
The meeting was attended by, among others, university registrar, Dr Chinnappa Gowda, registrar of Pareekshanga, Prof P S Yedapadittaya, and finance officer Prof Fakirappa.
Murthy revealed that some of the autonomous colleges, which were dithering from falling in line with the university’s examination rules, have since changed their stand. “The university’s prior permission is necessary before the autonomous colleges introduce new courses. There had been some confusion over certain courses adopted by St Aloysius autonomous college without obtaining this mandatory permission. At a meeting held under the presidentship of the state higher education minister, it was decided to convert the 70:30 and 50:50 ratios allotted to students by the college, into 80:20 ratio, before admitting such students for courses and also for issuing of degree certificates. Decisions were taken to withdraw the case filed the autonomous college in the court, and asking the colleges concerned to adopt the rules of the university, were taken at the said meeting,” he explained.
The academic council decided to accord recognitions to courses like M Com in Applied Financing and Accounting, M A in Applied Economics, and M A in Communication, which had been started by St Aloysius College in the academic year 2008-09, he disclosed. He said that a committee formed to investigate the issue of BBM tabulation scandal will submit its report within three months.
He revealed that internet speed in the university will go up once BSNL, human resource development department, and the university take up an ambitious plan to include the university under National Knowledge Network scheme.
