Bengaluru, Oct 4: Higher Education Minister Dr C N Ashwath Narayan advised students keen on acquiring engineering degree to do it in a better way by joining polytechnic for studying after completing SSLC and then progressing as they will be better equipped to become successful engineers.
Addressing a function in Krishnaraja Assembly constituency in Mysuru district on Monday, the minister said those who study in polytechnic after SSLC instead of rushing to join PUC are better equipped to learn engineering and fare well in the job market as they have already learnt practical knowledge in polytechnics.
Dr Narayan said as many as 70,000 students have the opportunity to take up courses in polytechnics and the State Government spends Rs 3 to 4 lakh on each student annually studying in polytechnics. Unfortunately, the students are not aware of the better and more practical way to become good engineers and nearly 40,000 seats are not filled up in the polytechnics.
The minister advised the students that they have the option to take up courses of their liking in polytechnics, ITIs and GTTC, which offer diverse courses in electric vehicles, electric battery, electric charging, machine learning, artificial intelligence, robotics etc. which have greater demand.
He said those entering the job market after their studies are more interested in white-collar jobs rather than skill oriented blue-collar jobs. The students and parents must study according to their skills, aptitudes and capabilities in order to do well either in the job market or become entrepreneurs, he added.
MLA S A Ramadas was present at the function.
