Kundapur, Oct 3: The sand extraction that is going on in the Sauparnika river at Bantwadi of Hosadu village in the taluk is causing danger to vented dam. Now the culprits have forged the signature of the person who raised a complaint against them and got the license for sand extraction.
Only after submitting the record of land and owner along with photo id, permission for sand mining is given. However, the signature of the complainant who gave complaints to various departments is forged to obtain license for dumping yard.
Land near the bridge belongs to port and fisheries department. The illegal sand miners have attached the RTC of a private owner to that land and submitted the documents with the forged signature of Gajanana Bhat, who had raised complaint against this illegal sand extraction, in order to get license for sand dumping yard.
Though officials of mining department have to visit the dumping yard and GPS with proof the documents, the rules are being flouted. Mining department has not registered any criminal case against the goons though complaint was given about forgery sign.
Gajanana Bhat, complainant and resident of Sauparnika river bank said, “Public had given complaint to all the officials and the deputy commissioner (DC) with regards to the damaged roads and the pollution of noise caused by the vehicles. Mining department officials had visited the place only for procedure sake. After that even if I try on phone they are not receiving my call. Sand dumping is being done after obtaining license under my forged signature. My repeated complaints have fallen on deaf ears.”
Kurma Rao, DC of Udupi says, “I will immediately instruct the mining officials to take action on duplicate records and also dumping of sand on government land. I will also instruct the police department with respect to the plying of heavy vehicles and parking at road side.”
