Udupi, Sep 29: “National highway authority of India (NHAI) has approved an overpass at Santhekatte junction and an overpass for Ambalpady to control the increasing traffic density in Udupi. Tenders are already invited. The final decision will be taken in January. The construction will begin in February,” said MLA K RaghupathLi when municipal council appointed member Dinesh Pai brought up the matter. He was speaking in an ordinary meeting of the city municipal council held at Satyamurthi memorial auditorium on Wednesday September 29.
Responding to the complaints by councillors that people are cursing elected representatives for the innumerable potholes in the council limits, the MLA assured that the roads at Malpe, Karavali junction, Indrali and Parkala will be freed from potholes within a week after the monsoons.
“Several vacant sites and vacant old buildings are disastrous for Udupi. If details of buildings vacant for many years in each ward are provided, the council will take immediate action,” said engineer Mohan Raj. Chief minister’s health insurance scheme cards were distributed to the beneficiaries on the occasion.
Councillor Krishna Raj Kodancha, Vijay Kodavoor and Ramesh Kanchan discussed to increase charges for flex and billboards in the council limits. It was decided that the rates will be fixed after obtaining the opinions of all.
Discussions about disorderly underground drainage, disposal of trash, street lights and scarcity of workers were held.
President of the council Sumitra R Nayak, vice president Laxmi Manjunath Kola, Uday Shetty, councillors and council officials were present.
