Udupi, Oct 20: MLA K Raghupathi Bhat said that the Panchayathraj minister has consented to allot Rs 50 lac for the maintenance work of roads in each legislative constituency in the district.
At the zilla panchayat general meeting held here on Tuesday October 19, Raghupathi Bhat informed this when the ZP members Bhujanga Shetty, Janardan Tonse and Raju Poojary among others drew his attention about the plight of the roads in the district. Bhat, added that demand was putforth for alloting Rs one crore where as Rs 50 lac has been promised by the minister.
He lamented that Twelfth Finance Commission which was incorporated to make recommendations for the distribution of the net proceeds of the taxes has not yet released by the central government. Nanjudappa committee report has turned to be curse for coastal districts, he said.
MESCOM demands to keep deposit in water supply works. In case any repair or renovation needed for the works done by the Pradhanmanthri Gram Swarojgar Yojana (PMGSY), it becomes ZP's responsibility to do so, but the ZP is dearth of funds, Bhujanga Shetty expressed his resentment.
In response, chairman of Task Force for Implementation of Third Finance Commission Report, A G Kodgi told there is no such system where we are accountable to do others’ work.
