Udupi, Sep 27: Several organizations in Udupi held protests here together today in support of the Bharat Bandh against three farm laws, increase in cooking gas, diesel, petrol and other essential commodities.

A protest rally was held in this connection from Jodukatte, Udupi. The rally progressed via Diana circle, reached Jodukatte again and ended at Ajjarkadu memorial where the protests were held.

Udupi block Congress president Ramesh Kanchan said that he has not seen any minister in the state speaking for the farmers. “Nobody has approached the farmers protesting at Delhi for a long time. People will teach a lesson to the government in the future. Congress is always supporting the farmers,” he said.

CITU district vice president Balakrishna Shetty said that they gave up Bandh in Udupi so that ordinary people will not be put to hardship. “The government has intended the farm Acts to benefit corporate companies. The government wants big companies such as Ambanis and the Adanis to make profit out of them. Nearly 1,20,000 people will have to lose jobs because of them,” he said.

“The amendments to the Acts including the Karnataka prevention of cow slaughter Act should be given up by the state government. The governments at the centre and the state should also leave the four labour Acts amendments that are benefiting the corporate companies. Those are disastrous to the people who are already suffering due to the price rises of cooking gas, petrol, diesel and the items of daily use,” he added.

Dalit Sangharsha committee’s Sunder Master, congress leaders Prakhyat Shetty, Anganwadi worker’s association’s Sushila Nada, Muslim organization leader Idris Hoode, pro farmer organization’s Shashidhar Golla, Kisan Sangha’s Ermal Shashidhar Shetty, PFI’s district president Nazeer Ahmed, SDPI’s chief secretary Majeed Uchila, Yathish Karkera, Ganesh Nergi, Kaviraj, construction worker’s organization members and Anganwadi workers took part in the protests.
