Mangaluru, Sep 25: Journey Theatre Group (R) organized a programme of theatrical music and scenes titled 'Ranganamana' sponsored by Kannada and Culture department of Dakshina Kannada district in association with Rangayana Mysuru, on the occasion of the birth anniversary of well-known theatre and cine personality, the late B V Karanth on September 21 at St Joseph's School, Bajal.
Veteran theatre personality, I K Bolwar, and theatre director, Jagan Pawar, participated as the chief guests of the programme. Speaking after inaugurating the programme by lighting the lamp, I K Bolwar reminisced his association with B V Karanth. He said that theatrical music does not confine itself to the framework of classical music. He also added that it has the power to attract even common people because of the ease of singing provided by the free flowing style of songs. Karanth used this music in his plays on this basis effectively,he narrated.
Jagan Pawar said that Karanth is unique because he was like a nomad who did not confine himself to any classical structures or rules and always got involved with fast changing experiments. His way of handling the theatre is an ideal for those connected with the theatre.
Sr Prameela, manager of St Joseph's school, wished the programme well. Headmistress, Sr Sunita, was present. Journey Theatre Group (R) president, Bhavya Shetty welcomed and delivered an introductory address. Sunil Pallamajalu presented the programme. Later, artists of different organizations and institutions presented a programme of theatrical music and theatrical scenes.
