Kasargod, Oct 15: A young couple from Raveneshwar near Hosadurg in the district consumed acid on the evening of Wednesday October 13. They committed suicide when the other family members were away.
Pramod (24), and his wife, Shubha (21), who loved each other and married a month back, were frustrated over unending financial problems. Reportedly, they have left behind a suicide note, clarifying that they decided to take this extreme step on account of economic crisis.
The other family members had been on a visit to a relative’s house on Wednesday evening. When they came back at night, the door of the house was found bolted from inside. After efforts to open the door failed, they broke open the rear door with the help of neighbours, and entered the house. They found the husband-wife duo writhing in serious pain, and rushed them to a private hospital nearby. The hospital authorities, considering the precarious condition of the couple, advised the relatives to take them to Mangalore. Although arrangements were made to take them to Mangalore, they breathed their last on the way, it is learnt.
Poliemen of Hosadurg station said they have recovered the suicide note stated above. Pramod had taken up the construction of a new house for him, and it is suspected that he was frustrated, having been unable to complete it for want of funds. A case has been registered.
